For an asphalt and concrete contractor that currently runs 12 crews and has more than 75 employees, C&M Construction Group had an unlikely beginning.

In 2006, Carlos Mendieta began erecting fences for general contractors in the New Orleans area. With a reputation for performing quality work, he launched a saw cutting operation in 2008 which eventually transitioned into other aspects of roadwork.

The saw cutting led to joint sealing and paving, which eventually required hiring more workers to man concrete and asphalt paving crews. Most recently, C&M acquired a trucking company, giving them to access to 4 Day Cabs, and 11 Tri-Axle Dump Trucks.

“From that point, we started doing concrete sidewalks, curbs and driveways, and just gradually grew into being able to pave an entire roadway blocks at a time,” recalls Mendieta, president of the Kenner, La. company. The boom that resulted from doing the concrete work continued when C&M Construction Group took on the added capability of asphalt paving. “We grew it from paving roadway patches into doing restorations of entire streets,” Mendieta says. “Now we’re able to do miles of roadway at a time.”

C&M has four divisions that include saw cutting and joint sealing, trucking, concrete, and asphalt paving. The contractor also performs work for the Louisiana Dept. of Transportation, Jefferson Parish, the City of New Orleans and others.
